Waupaca Youth Basketball Club Season Information

The Waupaca Youth Basketball Club (WYBC) is excited to share our general season information.    The WYBC is a volunteer, non-profit organization committed to developing excellence in the youth of our Waupaca community by teaching the skills, disciplines, teamwork, and competitive spirit that are acquired through the game of basketball.

Key guidelines for the WYBC opportunity:

  • The season runs from November through March, and is offered to boys and girls in 3rd – 8th grade.   The cost to register for the club will be established each year, and is typically less than $100 depending if you need a uniform or not.  You will need to purchase a uniform, practice jersey, shooting shirt, and ball, with an ala-carte option if you have useable equipment from last season or if you can find used equipment from prior year players.  We recommend you buy your uniforms at the time your register, as some game begin the first week of November.
  • Teams will usually play a number of tournaments aligned to grade level – for example 5th grade will play roughly 5 tournaments while 8th grade will play roughly 8 tournaments.
  • Tournaments are typically played within 60-80 miles of Waupaca, with one home tournament and one tournament at WI Dells with a opportunity to stay at a waterpark hotel with all teams.
  • Teams typically practice once per week for 3rd-5th grade, and twice per week for 6th - 8th grade.   7th and 8th grade will coordinate practices with the school basketball program to allow participation in both programs.  Grades 3-6 are also encouraged to participate in the rec basketball programs that are available.
  • Our goal is to have 8-10 players per team, as that is the optimal number for 1-2 coaches.   If we have more players, we will look to form a second team or perhaps combine age groups to form another team.   We will also look to bring 8-10 players to tournaments so that we can balance playing time and competitiveness.   Players are developed in practice at home and in scheduled practices, and get the chance to display their hard work during at games.
  • The WYBC sponsors basketball skills sessions and other play development opportunities both during the season and in the off-season.
  • Coaches are primarily parents/volunteers, and we are always looking for head coaches or assistant coaches.
  • WYBC is sponsor supported.   Thank you to our sponsors:  Nekoosa Coated Products, Waupaca Foundry.  If you are interested in sponsorship please visit the sponsorship section of our website.

This opportunity is for all youth.  The WYBC is the best way to learn the game and become the next basketball star at the high school level and beyond!  We hope to see you out on the court this season!  GO COMETS!
